It is time for Coding Clinic to have a complete overhaul also as I have a hard time telling people that we still have to follow guidance from a 1985 coding clinic for example. The whole thing needs to be reviewed and updated and then republished as a single edition. And they should include all the questions and answers that are given and not just the few that are published. Make it online if it is too much paper…I don’t know what they are going to do when ICD-10 finally rolls around..I hope that will force them to update themselves…

Hi,
I agree with going straight from I-10 to I-11 to give us more time and be ahead of the when I-11 comes out. In my HIM graduate program, a student did a study on I-11 and I-10 and what she was finding out was that there are not really a lot of differences between the two.

AHIMA actually deleted that whole discussion referred to above “Coding Clinic Disillusion.” Don’t ask me why because the reasons they gave me did not make sense to me so I can’t explain them to anyone else. I’d like to see some free software from NCHS or CMS that promotes ICD-10-CM. Posting PDF files to the web site just doesn’t do it for me. Post a software version on the website and start some interest. How about some GEMS software? It reminds me of when I used to carry my soft-cover coding books (3 separate) and inevitably, one would slip and hit the ground. It’s 2008, not 1978.

Socalcoder – Couldn’t agree with you more. We’ll see what happens with this California RAC problem. Is it wise to expand to 47 other states when it appears that the demo wasn’t as successful as advertised by CMS?
